Southern Wintun
The Southern Wintun are a Native American group primarily located in northern California. They are part of the larger Wintun linguistic family, which includes both Southern and Northern Wintun tribes. Historically, the Southern Wintun inhabited areas around the Sacramento River and the Sacramento Valley, relying on fishing, hunting, and gathering for sustenance.
Their culture is rich in traditions, including basket weaving and ceremonial practices. The Southern Wintun people have faced significant challenges due to colonization and land loss, but they continue to preserve their heritage and work towards cultural revitalization. Today, they are recognized as an important part of California's indigenous history.
