Northern Wintun
The Northern Wintun are a Native American group primarily located in northern California. They are part of the larger Wintun linguistic family, which includes both Northern and Southern Wintun tribes. Historically, they lived in the Sacramento Valley and surrounding areas, relying on fishing, hunting, and gathering for sustenance.
Their culture is rich in traditions, including basket weaving and ceremonial practices. The Northern Wintun people have faced significant challenges due to colonization and land loss, but they continue to preserve their heritage and advocate for their rights. Today, they are recognized as an important part of California's indigenous history.
