South West Africa People's Organization
The South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) is a political party in Namibia that was founded in 1960. It emerged as a liberation movement fighting against South African rule in South West Africa, which is now known as Namibia. SWAPO aimed to achieve independence for the region and became the leading force in the struggle for self-determination.
After a long armed struggle and negotiations, Namibia gained independence in 1990, with SWAPO becoming the ruling party. The organization has since focused on nation-building and development, playing a significant role in shaping the country's political landscape and policies.
