Somoza
Somoza refers to a political dynasty in Nicaragua, primarily associated with Anastasio Somoza García, who ruled the country from 1937 until his assassination in 1956. His family maintained control over Nicaragua through a series of authoritarian regimes, with his sons, Luis Somoza Debayle and Anastasio Somoza Debayle, succeeding him. The Somoza regime was marked by corruption, repression, and close ties to the United States.
The Somoza family's rule faced increasing opposition, leading to the rise of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), a revolutionary group. In 1979, the FSLN successfully overthrew the Somoza government, leading to significant political and social changes in Nicaragua. The legacy of the Somoza dynasty continues to influence Nicaraguan politics today.
