Sandinista National Liberation Front
The Sandinista National Liberation Front, known as FSLN, is a socialist political party in Nicaragua. Founded in 1961, it aimed to overthrow the Somoza dictatorship, which had ruled the country for decades. The FSLN successfully led a revolution in 1979, establishing a government that focused on social reforms, education, and healthcare.
During the 1980s, the FSLN faced opposition from the Contras, a rebel group funded by the United States. This conflict led to significant political and social turmoil in Nicaragua. The FSLN lost power in the 1990 elections but remains an influential political force in the country today.
