Society of United Irishmen
The Society of United Irishmen was a political organization founded in 1791 in Dublin, Ireland. Its main goal was to promote Irish independence and reform by uniting people of different religious backgrounds, particularly Protestants and Catholics. The society sought to achieve these aims through peaceful means, advocating for democratic rights and the end of British rule in Ireland.
As tensions grew, the society became more radical, leading to the Irish Rebellion of 1798. The rebellion aimed to overthrow British control but was ultimately unsuccessful. The society was suppressed, but its ideals influenced later movements for Irish nationalism and independence.
