United Irishmen
The United Irishmen was a political organization founded in 1791 in Ireland. Its primary goal was to promote Irish independence and unite people of different religious backgrounds, particularly Catholics and Protestants, against British rule. The group sought to achieve reform through peaceful means but later resorted to rebellion.
In 1798, the United Irishmen led a significant uprising against British authority, known as the Irish Rebellion of 1798. Although the rebellion was ultimately unsuccessful, it inspired future movements for Irish nationalism and highlighted the desire for self-governance among the Irish people. Key figures included Wolfe Tone, a prominent leader and advocate for Irish unity.
