Skull Anatomy
The human skull is a complex structure made up of 22 bones that protect the brain and support the face. It is divided into two main parts: the cranium, which houses and protects the brain, and the facial bones, which form the structure of the face. Key bones in the cranium include the frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital bones.
The skull also contains several important features, such as the sutures, which are fibrous joints that connect the bones, and the foramina, small openings that allow nerves and blood vessels to pass through. Additionally, the skull has cavities called sinuses that help reduce its weight and improve voice resonance.
