Skin Picking
Skin picking, also known as excoriation disorder, is a behavioral condition where individuals repeatedly pick at their skin, leading to noticeable damage. This behavior can occur on various parts of the body, often focusing on areas with perceived imperfections, such as scars or blemishes. It can result in sores, infections, and scarring, impacting both physical health and emotional well-being.
People who engage in skin picking may do so as a way to cope with stress, anxiety, or boredom. It is often classified as a type of body-focused repetitive behavior (BFRB) and can be challenging to control. Treatment options include therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, and support groups.
