Silphium
Silphium was a plant native to the ancient region of Cyrenaica, in present-day Libya. It was highly valued for its medicinal properties and culinary uses, particularly as a seasoning. The plant was so important that it became a symbol of wealth and prosperity in ancient times.
Despite its popularity, Silphium became extinct by the 1st century AD, likely due to overharvesting and climate changes. Its unique shape and the fact that it was depicted on coins highlight its significance in ancient cultures, but today, it remains a mystery, with no known close relatives.
