Siege of Sarajevo
The Siege of Sarajevo was a prolonged military blockade that took place during the Bosnian War from April 5, 1992, to February 29, 1996. It was conducted by the Army of Republika Srpska against the city of Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The siege resulted in significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction, as residents faced shortages of food, water, and medical supplies.
During the siege, the city was subjected to constant shelling and sniper fire, leading to a humanitarian crisis. International attention grew as reports of the suffering emerged, prompting humanitarian aid efforts. The siege ended with the signing of the Dayton Agreement, which established peace in the region.
