Shin Splints
Shin splints, medically known as medial tibial stress syndrome, refer to pain along the inner edge of the shinbone (tibia). This condition often occurs in athletes and active individuals due to repetitive stress on the leg muscles, tendons, and bone. Common causes include running on hard surfaces, improper footwear, and sudden increases in activity level.
Symptoms of shin splints typically include tenderness, soreness, or pain along the lower leg. Rest, ice, and over-the-counter pain relievers can help alleviate discomfort. Preventive measures include proper stretching, strengthening exercises, and gradually increasing exercise intensity to reduce the risk of injury.
