Sertoli Cells
Sertoli cells are specialized cells located in the seminiferous tubules of the testes. They play a crucial role in supporting and nurturing developing sperm cells during the process of spermatogenesis. Sertoli cells provide structural support, secrete essential nutrients, and create a protective environment for the maturing sperm.
In addition to their supportive functions, Sertoli cells help regulate the hormonal environment within the testes. They produce inhibin, a hormone that helps control the production of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary gland. This regulation is vital for maintaining proper sperm production and overall male fertility.
