Selaginella
Selaginella is a genus of plants commonly known as spike mosses. They belong to the family Selaginellaceae and are primarily found in tropical and subtropical regions. These plants are characterized by their small, scale-like leaves and unique reproductive structures called strobili, which produce spores.
Unlike true mosses, Selaginella has a vascular system, allowing it to transport water and nutrients more efficiently. They thrive in moist, shaded environments and can often be found in forest understories. Some species are also known for their ability to survive extreme dehydration, entering a dormant state until conditions improve.
