Sedimentary Features
Sedimentary features are characteristics found in sedimentary rocks that provide insights into the conditions under which the rocks formed. These features include layers, or strata, which indicate changes in sediment deposition over time. Other common features are fossils, which are remnants of ancient life, and ripple marks, which show the effects of water movement on sediment.
Additionally, sedimentary rocks can exhibit cross-bedding, where layers are inclined at an angle, suggesting the influence of wind or water currents. Mud cracks are another feature, formed when wet sediment dries and shrinks. Together, these features help geologists interpret Earth's history.
