Scarborough Shoal
Scarborough Shoal is a group of small rocks and reefs located in the South China Sea, about 120 nautical miles west of Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines. It is known for its rich marine biodiversity and is a popular fishing ground for local fishermen. The area is also significant for its strategic location and has been the subject of territorial disputes between the Philippines and China.
The shoal is characterized by a lagoon surrounded by a ring of reefs, making it a unique marine ecosystem. It is often visited by various species of fish, sea turtles, and birds. Due to its ecological importance and geopolitical tensions, Scarborough Shoal remains a focal point in discussions about maritime rights and environmental conservation in the region.
