Sayyid Ahmad Khan
Sayyid Ahmad Khan (1817-1898) was a prominent Indian Muslim scholar, reformer, and educator. He is best known for his efforts to promote modern education among Muslims in India during the British colonial period. He founded the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College in Aligarh, which later became the Aligarh Muslim University, a significant institution for higher education.
In addition to his educational initiatives, Sayyid Ahmad Khan advocated for social reforms and emphasized the importance of scientific knowledge. He believed that Muslims should embrace modernity while retaining their cultural identity. His work laid the foundation for the Aligarh Movement, which aimed to uplift the Muslim community through education and social progress.
