Satellite State
A "Satellite State" refers to a country that is formally independent but heavily influenced or controlled by a more powerful nation. This influence can manifest in various ways, including political, economic, and military support. Often, satellite states align with the interests of the dominant country, which may be a result of historical ties, ideological similarities, or coercive pressure.
During the Cold War, many countries in Eastern Europe, such as Poland and Hungary, were considered satellite states of the Soviet Union. These nations had limited autonomy and were expected to follow the policies set by Moscow, reflecting the geopolitical dynamics of the time.
