Sardar Udham Singh
Sardar Udham Singh was an Indian revolutionary known for his role in the struggle against British colonial rule. Born on December 26, 1899, in Punjab, he became a prominent figure after witnessing the tragic Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919, where British troops killed hundreds of unarmed Indian civilians. This event deeply influenced his life and commitment to the freedom movement.
In 1940, Singh assassinated Michael O'Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, to avenge the massacre. He was arrested and later tried, using the trial as a platform to highlight the injustices faced by Indians under British rule. Singh was executed on July 31, 1940, and is remembered as a martyr in India's fight for independence.
