Sap Collection
Sap collection is the process of gathering the fluid produced by certain trees, primarily maple and birch. This fluid, known as sap, is rich in sugars and nutrients. During specific seasons, usually late winter to early spring, trees are tapped by drilling small holes into their trunks. A spout is inserted, allowing the sap to flow into containers.
Once collected, the sap can be processed to make products like maple syrup or birch syrup. The sap is typically boiled down to concentrate its sugars, resulting in a sweet syrup. This traditional practice is popular in many regions, especially in North America.
