Sap Harvesting
Sap harvesting is the process of collecting the sugary liquid known as sap from trees, primarily maple trees. This sap is rich in sugars and is often used to produce maple syrup. The harvesting typically occurs in late winter to early spring when temperatures fluctuate between freezing at night and warmer during the day, causing the sap to flow.
To collect the sap, small holes are drilled into the tree's trunk, and taps or spouts are inserted. The sap then flows out and is collected in buckets or through tubing systems. After collection, the sap is boiled down to concentrate the sugars and create syrup.
