Santuario de Fátima
The Santuario de Fátima is a prominent Catholic pilgrimage site located in Fátima, Portugal. It is known for the reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children—Lúcia dos Santos, Francisco Marto, and Jacinta Marto—in 1917. The sanctuary attracts millions of visitors each year who come to pray and reflect on the messages of peace and hope associated with these events.
The complex includes the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, which houses the tombs of the three visionaries, and the Chapel of the Apparitions, where the apparitions are said to have occurred. The site is also known for its large open-air altar, where significant religious ceremonies take place, especially during the annual pilgrimage in May.
