Francisco Marto
Francisco Marto was one of the three shepherd children who reported seeing the Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal in 1917. Born on June 11, 1908, he was the younger brother of Jacinta Marto and a cousin of Lúcia dos Santos. The apparitions, which occurred over several months, became significant events in the Catholic Church.
Francisco was known for his deep spirituality and innocence. He often focused on prayer and penance, which were emphasized during the apparitions. He passed away from pneumonia on April 4, 1919, at the age of 10. In 2000, he was beatified by Pope John Paul II, recognizing his virtuous life.
