Sand Martin
The Sand Martin is a small migratory bird belonging to the swallow family, known scientifically as *Riparia riparia*. It has a brown upper body and a white underbelly, with a distinctive dark band across its chest. Sand Martins are often found near rivers, lakes, and sandy banks where they create burrows for nesting.
These birds are skilled fliers, feeding primarily on insects caught in mid-air. They migrate to warmer regions during the winter months, typically traveling to areas in Africa and Southern Europe. Sand Martins are social creatures, often seen in flocks, especially during the breeding season.
