Salinan language
The Salinan language is a Native American language that was historically spoken by the Salinan people in central California. It belongs to the Hokan language family and has two main dialects: Northern Salinan and Southern Salinan. The language is now considered extinct, with no fluent speakers remaining, but efforts have been made to document and revitalize it.
Salinan was primarily used in the regions around the Salinas River and the Monterey Bay. The language features a complex system of sounds and grammar, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the Salinan tribe. Linguists continue to study the language to preserve its history and significance.
