The Sakya Trizin is the spiritual leader of the Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism. This lineage is known for its emphasis on scholarly study and meditation practices. The title "Trizin" means "holder of the teachings," and the Sakya Trizin is responsible for preserving and transmitting the teachings of the Sakya tradition. The current Sakya Trizin, Ngawang Kunga, was enthroned in 2017. He is recognized for his efforts in promoting Tibetan culture and Buddhism worldwide. The Sakya school is one of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, alongside Nyingma, Kagyu, and Gelug.
