Karmapa
The Karmapa is a prominent figure in Tibetan Buddhism, specifically within the Kagyu school. The title refers to the head of this lineage, which emphasizes meditation and the practice of compassion. The Karmapa is believed to be a reincarnation of a previous lama, and there have been 17 recognized Karmapas since the lineage began in the 12th century.
The current Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, was born in 1985 and recognized as the 17th Karmapa at a young age. He has played a significant role in promoting Tibetan Buddhism globally and addressing social issues, including environmental concerns and education. His teachings focus on mindfulness and the importance of compassion in daily life.
