Saint Cyril and Methodius
Saint Cyril and Methodius were two Byzantine brothers born in the 9th century, known for their missionary work in the Slavic regions. They created the Glagolitic alphabet, which was the first alphabet used to transcribe the Old Church Slavonic language. Their efforts aimed to spread Christianity and literacy among the Slavic peoples.
The brothers are often referred to as the "Apostles to the Slavs" due to their significant contributions to Slavic culture and education. They established the foundations for Slavic literature and are celebrated in various countries, particularly in Slovakia and Bulgaria, where their legacy is honored annually on February 14.
