Rufous Antpitta
The Rufous Antpitta is a small, ground-dwelling bird found primarily in the cloud forests of the Andes in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. It has a distinctive rufous-brown plumage, which helps it blend into its forest habitat. This bird is known for its shy behavior and prefers to stay hidden among the underbrush.
Rufous Antpittas primarily feed on insects and other small invertebrates. They are often heard before they are seen, as they produce a series of soft, melodic calls. Conservation efforts are important for this species due to habitat loss from deforestation and human encroachment in their natural environments.
