Rinzai school
The Rinzai school is one of the main branches of Zen Buddhism, originating in Japan. It emphasizes the practice of koans, which are paradoxical questions or statements used to provoke deep thought and insight. Rinzai practitioners often engage in intense meditation sessions to achieve sudden enlightenment, known as satori.
Founded by the Chinese monk Linji Yixuan, the Rinzai school focuses on direct experience and personal realization of one's true nature. It encourages a dynamic approach to meditation, often incorporating physical activity and interaction with teachers. This school has significantly influenced Japanese culture, art, and philosophy.
