Rinzai
Rinzai is one of the main schools of Zen Buddhism, originating in Japan during the 12th century. It emphasizes the practice of koans, which are paradoxical questions or statements used to provoke deep thought and insight. Rinzai practitioners often engage in intense meditation sessions to achieve sudden enlightenment, known as satori.
The Rinzai school values direct experience and personal realization over theoretical knowledge. Its teachings encourage students to confront their own minds and discover their true nature. Rinzai has produced many influential masters and continues to be a significant force in contemporary Zen practice.
