Richard Nevill, 1st Earl of Westmorland
Richard Nevill, 1st Earl of Westmorland (c. 1493–1550), was a prominent English nobleman during the Tudor period. He was the son of John Nevill, 3rd Baron Nevill and inherited the title of Earl of Westmorland in 1525. Richard played a significant role in the political landscape of his time, aligning himself with the Yorkist faction during the Wars of the Roses.
Westmorland was known for his involvement in various uprisings, including the Pilgrimage of Grace in 1536, which opposed the religious reforms of King Henry VIII. His actions led to his eventual downfall, and he was forced into exile after the failure of the rebellion.
