Rhizophora Mangle
Rhizophora mangle, commonly known as the red mangrove, is a species of mangrove tree found in coastal intertidal zones. It is characterized by its distinctive prop roots, which help stabilize the tree in soft, muddy soils and provide support against strong tides and waves. The tree can grow up to 30 meters tall and has glossy, green leaves that are typically 10 to 15 centimeters long.
This species plays a crucial role in coastal ecosystems by providing habitat for various marine and terrestrial species. The red mangrove also helps protect shorelines from erosion and serves as a natural barrier against storms. Its unique adaptations allow it to thrive in saline environments, making it an essential component of mangrove forests.
