Republic of Serbian Krajina
The Republic of Serbian Krajina was a self-proclaimed entity that existed from 1991 to 1995 during the breakup of Yugoslavia. It was primarily located in the regions of Croatia and was established by ethnic Serbs who opposed Croatian independence. The area was marked by conflict, particularly during the Croatian War of Independence, as it sought to join Serbia.
The Krajina was governed by a series of leaders, including Milan Babić and Goran Hadžić, and was supported by the government of Slobodan Milošević in Serbia. The region was officially dissolved after the Croatian military operation known as Operation Storm in 1995, leading to significant demographic changes and the displacement of many Serbs.
