Republic of Artsakh
The Republic of Artsakh is a self-declared state located in the South Caucasus region, primarily populated by ethnic Armenians. It declared independence from Azerbaijan in 1991, following the collapse of the Soviet Union. The region has a complex history, with territorial disputes leading to conflict, particularly during the Nagorno-Karabakh War in the 1990s.
Despite its declaration of independence, the Republic of Artsakh is not widely recognized internationally and is considered part of Azerbaijan by most countries. The capital city is Stepanakert, and the region has its own government and institutions, although it relies heavily on support from Armenia.
