Reformasi Movement
The Reformasi Movement was a political movement in Indonesia that emerged in the late 1990s, primarily aimed at ending the authoritarian regime of President Suharto. It began in 1998, fueled by widespread discontent over economic crises, corruption, and human rights abuses. The movement united various groups, including students, activists, and civil society organizations, advocating for democratic reforms and greater political freedom.
As a result of the movement, Suharto resigned in May 1998, leading to significant political changes in Indonesia. The Reformasi Movement paved the way for democratic elections, the establishment of a more open political system, and the promotion of civil liberties, marking a crucial transition in the country's history.
