Queen Marie-Amélie
Queen Marie-Amélie was the wife of King Louis-Philippe I of the French July Monarchy. Born on September 26, 1782, in Lisbon, Portugal, she was the daughter of Infante Pedro of Portugal. Marie-Amélie became queen consort in 1830 and was known for her charitable work and support of the arts.
During her reign, she focused on social issues and the welfare of the poor. After the fall of the monarchy in 1848, she and her family went into exile, first in England and later in Claremont, England. Marie-Amélie passed away on May 24, 1866.
