Queen Amalia of Greece
Queen Amalia of Greece was born on December 21, 1818, in Düsseldorf, Germany. She became the first queen consort of the newly established Kingdom of Greece after her marriage to King Otto of Greece in 1836. Amalia played a significant role in promoting Greek culture and education during her reign.
As queen, Amalia was known for her charitable work and support of the arts. She helped establish the National Library of Greece and the National Theatre of Greece. Amalia's reign lasted until 1862, when she and Otto were deposed, leading to her return to Germany, where she lived until her death in 1875.
