Pyu People
The Pyu People were an ancient civilization that thrived in what is now Myanmar from around the 1st century BCE to the 9th century CE. They are known for their unique culture, which blended elements of Indian and Southeast Asian influences. The Pyu established city-states, with notable sites like Sri Ksetra and Beikthano, which featured advanced urban planning and impressive architecture.
The Pyu were primarily engaged in agriculture and trade, connecting with neighboring regions through commerce. They practiced Buddhism, which played a significant role in their society, as evidenced by the numerous stupas and monasteries found in their archaeological sites. Their decline in the 9th century is attributed to the rise of the Burmans.
