Pubococcygeus
The pubococcygeus is a muscle located in the pelvic floor, stretching from the pubic bone to the coccyx (tailbone). It plays a crucial role in supporting pelvic organs, including the bladder, uterus, and rectum. This muscle is part of the larger group known as the pelvic floor muscles, which help maintain urinary and bowel control.
Strengthening the pubococcygeus can improve pelvic health and enhance sexual function. Exercises such as Kegel exercises specifically target this muscle, promoting better muscle tone and endurance. A strong pubococcygeus can also aid in childbirth and recovery postpartum.
