Ptolemaic Navy
The Ptolemaic Navy was the naval force of the Ptolemaic Kingdom, which existed in Egypt from 305 to 30 BCE. Established by Ptolemy I Soter, a general of Alexander the Great, the navy played a crucial role in protecting trade routes and maintaining control over the Mediterranean Sea. It was known for its advanced ships, including the trireme, which were designed for speed and maneuverability.
The Ptolemaic Navy also participated in various military campaigns, notably against rival powers like Antony and Cleopatra. The navy's strength contributed to the kingdom's wealth and influence, making it a significant player in the ancient world until its decline following the Roman conquest.
