Procopius
Procopius was a Byzantine historian born around 500 AD in Caesarea, Palestine. He is best known for his works, including "The Wars of Justinian," which details the military campaigns of Emperor Justinian I and his general Belisarius. Procopius provides valuable insights into the political and social conditions of the Byzantine Empire during this period.
In addition to military history, Procopius wrote "The Secret History," a critical account of Justinian I, his wife Theodora, and their court. This work reveals the darker aspects of their reign, contrasting with the more official narratives. Procopius's writings remain essential for understanding Byzantine history and culture.
