Principality of Hutt River
The Principality of Hutt River was a micronation located in Western Australia, founded in 1970 by Leonard Casley. It was established when Casley declared his farm a sovereign state in response to disputes with the Australian government over wheat production quotas. The principality claimed to be an independent nation, complete with its own currency, stamps, and flag.
Hutt River operated for over four decades, attracting tourists and curious visitors. In 2020, the principality officially ceased operations following the death of Prince Leonard and the decision of his family to dissolve the micronation.
