Sealand
Sealand is a self-proclaimed micronation located on a former World War II naval fort in the North Sea, off the coast of England. Established in 1967 by Paddy Roy Bates, it claims to be an independent state, although it is not officially recognized by any country. The platform is about 0.012 square kilometers in size and is home to a small number of residents.
The fort, known as HM Fort Roughs, was originally built to defend against German attacks during the war. Today, Sealand operates its own government and issues passports, currency, and stamps. Despite its unique status, it faces challenges related to legal recognition and sustainability.
