Princess Sophia of Hanover
Princess Sophia of Hanover was born on October 14, 1630, in Hanover, Germany. She was the daughter of Elector George I of Hanover and Princess Sophia of the Palatinate. Sophia is notable for being a key figure in the succession of the British throne, as her lineage led to the establishment of the House of Hanover in England.
In 1701, the Act of Settlement was passed, which designated Sophia as the heir to the English throne, due to her descent from James VI and I. Although she never became queen, her descendants, including King George I, played significant roles in British history.
