Princess Elizabeth of Hesse-Darmstadt
Princess Elizabeth of Hesse-Darmstadt was born on May 1, 1864, in Darmstadt, Germany. She was a member of the German nobility and the daughter of Grand Duke Louis IV of Hesse. Elizabeth became known for her artistic talents and her dedication to charitable work, particularly in the fields of nursing and education.
In 1884, she married Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich of Russia, becoming a prominent figure in the Russian imperial court. Elizabeth was deeply involved in social causes and established the Moscow Society for the Care of the Sick. Tragically, she was killed in 1918 during the Russian Revolution, but her legacy of compassion and service endures.
