Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha was born on November 30, 1719, in Germany. She was a member of the House of Saxe-Gotha and the daughter of Frederick II, Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and Maria Antonia of Saxe-Weissenfels. Augusta became the Duchess of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld through her marriage to Ernest I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld in 1736. Augusta played a significant role in the cultural life of her time, supporting the arts and education. She was the mother of several notable children, including Leopold, Duke of Albany and Ernest II, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Augusta passed away on March 26, 1772.
