Prince Louis of Battenberg (1889-1914)
Prince Louis of Battenberg (1889-1914) was a British naval officer and a member of the Battenberg family, which was of German descent. He was born in London and was the son of Prince Alexander of Battenberg and Princess Victoria of Hesse. Louis served in the Royal Navy and was known for his dedication and skill as an officer.
In 1914, as World War I began, Prince Louis faced challenges due to anti-German sentiment in Britain. He resigned from his naval position and changed his family name to Mountbatten to distance himself from his German heritage. Tragically, he died in 1914 at the young age of 25.
