Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole
Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole was a Hawaiian royal born on March 26, 1871. He was the son of Prince David Kalanianaʻole and Princess Kapiʻolani, making him a member of the Hawaiian monarchy. After the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1893, he became a prominent advocate for Hawaiian rights and culture.
In 1903, Kūhiō was elected as the delegate to the United States Congress, where he served until his death in 1922. He worked to promote the interests of Hawaiians and played a key role in the establishment of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act in 1921, which aimed to provide land for native Hawaiians.
