Princess Kapiʻolani
Princess Kapiʻolani was a Hawaiian royal born on December 31, 1834. She was the daughter of High Chief Kapaʻakea and High Chiefess Kīnaʻu, making her a member of the Hawaiian monarchy. Kapiʻolani is best known for her efforts to promote education and health in the Hawaiian Islands, as well as her dedication to preserving Hawaiian culture.
In 1881, Princess Kapiʻolani famously climbed Mauna Loa, one of the largest volcanoes in the world, to demonstrate her strength and resilience. She was also a supporter of her cousin, Queen Liliʻuokalani, the last reigning monarch of Hawaii, and worked to improve the lives of her people during a time of significant change in the islands.
